The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Here’s the book description from Goodreads:Į cho Ridge is a small-town America. The plot is interesting and the fact that I’m into mystery and thriller reads made it more intriguing for me. This book is one of my highly anticipated reads this 2019, which is the reason why I chose to pick this up. The town is full of secrets and mysteries yet to be solved, and now that the twins are back to where it actually started, a new mystery unveils. Ellery’s aunt gone missing at the age of seventeen and 5 years ago a homecoming queen was just killed at Echo Ridge. The plot circles around Ellery with her twin brother Ezra going back to their home-town Echo Ridge to pursue their studies while their mother is on rehab. It’s my first Karen McManus book, I have already heard a lot about her debut novel which is ‘One of Us is Lying’ but decided to start with her second book first. Today we will be taking a dive into Karen McManus’ sophomore book which is ‘Two Can Keep a Secret’. Hello! Welcome back for another blogpost~

This signified that Sherlock’s hearse was empty, and therefore still alive, which conveyed the core of the plot. “Hearse” in the title meant a vehicle carrying a coffin to a church or cemetery, formerly drawn by horses during the Victorian Times. On the other hand, the title of “The Empty Hearse” implied the survival of Sherlock Holmes. In addition, Sherlock and Watson’s old quarters were burnt down by Moriarty as mentioned in the previous book, indicating that the place was left empty. They stayed at Camden House, an empty house standing right opposite the duo’s old rooms, 221B Baker Street, waiting for the arrest of the second most dangerous man in London – Colonel Sebastian Moran, one of Moriarty’s henchmen. The title of “The Adventure of the Empty House” reflected the mystery case that was indirectly appointed to Sherlock and Watson in this story. Both versions of the story focused on the return of Sherlock Holmes and both of them were set in London. Inspired by “The Adventure of the Empty House”, “The Empty Hearse” is the television episode adaptation that was aired two years after the previous episode, “The Reichenbach Fall”. Published in the year of 1903, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has brought Sherlock back to life in this book, as desired by many readers who loved the detective’s character and seemed unimpressed when the author decided to bring an end to his character. “The Adventure of the Empty House” was the sequel of “The Final Problem”, which previously presented the death of Sherlock Holmes. However, I never had strong feelings about him one way or another, I didn’t think there was anything about him that really stuck out of enough to make him a memorable character for me. I liked Ari’s supportive parents and had no feelings whatsoever about the people in his group of friends (I can’t remember any of their names or practically any character traits they might have had,) and while Ari himself was a little bit on the annoying side I chalked it down to him being young and immature. It’s a gentle, sweet-natured story with beautiful artwork but the whole thing lacked a certain emotional component for me that kept me feeling somewhat distanced from the story and characters. Like most of the graphic novels I’ve read lately, I read Bloom beginning to end in one sitting. Ari is amazed how much Hector actually loves baking, and he seems to be the perfect fit if not for the complications that ensue when and Ari develop feelings for each other. In a desperate attempt to break free from a future he does not want, Ari finds a young man named Hector to work for his parents in his stead. Ari’s mom and dad own a bakery and they want their son to continue to live with them and help keep the business afloat, instead of running off with his friends to start a band in the big city. Bloom’s protagonist, Ari, is a young gay wannabe musician who spends his days filled with angst over his parents’ expectations of him. “Perfectly captures the joys and hopes and thrills of being a real, authentic teenager. "An absolutely stunning, but also incredibly important novel about best friends and discovering who you are." -Mason Deaver, bestselling author of I Wish You All the Best The only problem? Codi never tells Maritza or JaKory about any of it. In return for never talking about that kiss, Ricky takes Codi under his wing and draws her into a wild summer filled with late nights, new experiences, and one really cute girl named Lydia. Straight kids.īut then Codi stumbles upon one of those cool kids, Ricky, kissing another boy in the dark, and an unexpected friendship is formed. So when Maritza and JaKory suggest crashing a party, Codi is highly skeptical. It’s because she and her two best friends, Maritza and JaKory, spend more time in her basement watching Netflix than engaging with the outside world. She’s never crashed a party, never stayed out too late. Seventeen is nothing like Codi Teller imagined. Late to the Party is an ode to late bloomers and wallflowers everywhere. From author Kelly Quindlen comes a poignant and deeply relatable story about friendship, self-acceptance, and what it means to be a Real Teenager. “The patient” is an unremarkable man who fights with his mother, falls in love, and then dies in an air raid during the Second World War. An epistolary novel, “The Screwtape Letters” features a senior demon called Screwtape writing thirty-one letters of advice and encouragement to his inexperienced nephew, Wormwood, who is trying to win the soul of a nameless young man. Unlike Dante and Milton, he eschewed a grand theology of the cosmos, focussing instead on quotidian temptations of the common man. Its appeal, I think, comes from Lewis’s success in writing a theodicy of the everyday. I remember wondering then, as I have been again since Justice Scalia’s interview, why the novel is still so popular. Three years ago, I saw one of the stage adaptations in New York, where it was shockingly difficult to get a ticket. Fox owns the film rights, and Ralph Winter, best known for blockbusters like “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four,” has said he will produce it. Continuously in print since Lewis published it in 1942, the novel has been adapted into plays, made into a comic book, and recorded as an audio drama by John Cleese. “The Screwtape Letters,” though, remains one of his most popular works. First off, the characters are completely one-dimensional. Unfortunately, despite the above, the execution of the story brought everything down. This is already enough to win interest so add in a non-binary prince who the protagonist has a good brotherly relationship with and a tough female character? That’s a complete win! There are four Londons in the ADSoM world and as Kell is one of the last magicians who can travel between them, he becomes a messenger for the ruling royals. I’ve put off reading A Darker Shade of Magic (henceforth ADSoM) for 8 years in fear that the huge hype around it back then would’ve raised my expectations too much, and I’m so glad I did because this? This book would’ve been more accurately named as a darker shade of yawn.īut before I go into why this book didn’t work for me, I want to touch upon the aspects where I can see why many adore this book: an inclusive and diverse cast of characters, plus an incredibly intriguing setting and alright writing. This process and the resultant mental deteriorations, betrayals and suicides is the subject of Muller’s third novel, the prize-winning The Land Of Green Plums (1993 translated by the poet Michael Hoffman). They soon came under the scrutiny of the Romanian Secret Services, leading to expulsion from university, harassment and interrogation. At university, Muller became involved in a group of German-speaking students who formed Aktionsgruppe Banat. Muller’s own father served in the SS, and remained unrepentant to his death. That minority were embraced by Hitler as part of the greater Germany, and many served in the German army in WWII. McCarthy HERTA MULLER was born in 1953 in the Banat region of Romania, home to a German-speaking minority incorporated into Romania in 1918 from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Part of Rome's postwar, young generation, Ovid rose to spectacular fame with his poems about sex - Love Affairs (Amores) and The Art of Love (Ars Amatoria) - an amoral guide to seduction and adultery. Using Ovid's own words, brought to life by one of Britain's leading actors, Simon Russell Beale, the film tells the story of the poet's fame, and his fateful falling out with the most powerful man in the world, the Roman emperor Augustus.īorn in Sulmona in central Italy, Ovid moved to Rome to study law but, seduced by 'the muse of poetry', he soon abandoned that career path. Unique among ancient poets, Ovid left us an autobiography, full of riveting intimacy, as well as ironical and slippery self-justification. His Metamorphoses, it has often been said, is the most influential secular book in European literature. Ovid, everyone knew, was simply the most clever, sexy and funny poet in the western tradition. When an Elizabethan literary critic said that the witty soul of Ovid lived on in 'honey tongued Shakespeare', they were just stating the obvious. Michael Wood explores the life, works and influence of one of the world's greatest storytellers who died 2,000 years ago. Christina and Patrick were intense and exhilarating! It was shocking, dirty, sexy, emotional, and it was all soooooo good! I fell in love with these characters. I felt so immersed in this book, I couldn’t put it down. When she meets Patrick and his solution to her problems, everything changes. Christina is a hot mess barely keeping it all together. Priceless is hands down the Sexiest book I have EVER read! You will definitely need a few extra changes of panties and a cold shower while reading this because Silver isn’t playing around! This author knows how to get the juices flowing!… Wink… PATRICK. Holy Crap! like, where do I even begin to explain how freaking fantastic this book was! Priceless was Hot, scratch that this book was Blazing! Liquid, that what this book turned me into! It made me ridiculously molten. Marcus and Julia and, finally, Atretes, come to realize that God’s love can heal all scars and bring forth a new dawn. From their first meeting, the two are caught in a stormy battle of wills. Atretes did not count on Rizpah’s fiery resistance to having “her son” taken away, nor is he prepared for the woman’s strength and beauty. Only one thing stands in his way: Rizpah, a Christian widow who has cared for the baby since his birth. Meanwhile, Atretes, the Germanic warrior, vows to move heaven and earth to find his son-the baby he thought was dead and whose life Hadassah saved-and take him back to Germania. With Hadassah confined to the cells below the arena, facing death once again, and his sister Julia dying of a strange new illness and longing for a forgiveness beyond her reach, Marcus goes in search of God. This classic series has inspired millions of readers around the world! The thrilling conclusion of the story of faithful Hadassah and aristocratic Marcus, also of Atretes, the Germanic warrior searching for his lost son, set in 70 AD Jerusalem. |
